NewsIsland Health confirms COVID-19 case at Carihi Secondary in Campbell River SHARE ON: Ethan Morneau, staff Friday, Oct. 9th, 2020 Carihi Secondary School (Screenshot from Google Maps)Island Health is confirming a COVID-19 exposure at Campbell River’s Carihi Secondary School.According to the health authority, it happened on September 28th.This is the second exposure confirmed by Island Health at a Vancouver Island school. The first happened at Alberni District Secondary on September 14th, 15th, 17th, 18th, and 22nd.Island Health says that when it receives a positive COVID-19 test result at a school, it follows a rigorous protocol. This includes contact tracing, to determine how the person was infected, and who they were in close contact with.Island Health will also identify and notify close contacts who it says may be at an increased risk, and it will tell them to self-isolate and check for symptoms for 14 days.Superintendent Jeremy Morrow is thanking the staff and community of Carihi Secondary for working with the district and Island Health on contact tracing the first SD72 COVID-19 exposure.Thank you to the staff and community of Carihi Secondary for working with us and Island Health on contact tracing the first #CRSD72 COVID-19 exposure. If your child’s school receives a notification of exposure, it does not necessarily mean your child has been exposed to COVID-19.Public Health will work with the school and school district to ensure close contacts are notified directly and provided specific guidance. If you do not receive a call or letter from Public Health, your child should continue to attend school.You can monitor your child for COVID-19 symptoms daily using the daily health check form.
