RCMP is asking witnesses of a pedestrian accident near the Comox Valley Aquatic Centre to come forward.
It happened last Wednesday afternoon and left an 11-year-old girl in two boot casts, and off her feet in a wheelchair.
Nancy Guhl says her daughter was crossing at the crosswalk on Lerwick Road when she was hit by a car turning left onto the road.
Guhl said her daughter wasn’t knocked off her feet. “She got hit and walked off the road. She’s a tough little kid.”
But after the accident, it became apparent the child was seriously hurt. “I think everybody thinks that she’s okay and she’s not,” Guhl said.
RCMP Const. Monika Terragni said it is their understanding that the driver stopped: “We don’t know for how long,” she said. “We’ve got a different version of events on both sides. We did speak to both parties; we did receive reports from both parties. Both parties did contact us to let us know what happened.”
Both the RCMP and Guhl are asking for witnesses to come forward.
“The longer people wait, the more details they forget,” Guhl said.
“There’s a whole bunch of things that went wrong with this situation, but I just need witnesses to come forward to say what happened. I need to know the body mechanics of what my daughter did, so we can treat her properly. I need to know if she left the ground, and that’s what caused her foot injuries.”
“No one who witnessed the accident stopped to give contact information and the driver did not stay with my daughter. Good Samaritans after the fact stayed. All they saw was a truck on Lerwick stopped talking to two girls with one girl visibly upset.”
