If you were looking forward to having fires on the beach this spring or summer, there’s bad news.
The CVRD has announced that its beach fire program for the 2021 season is cancelled.
The district says it made the decision to cancel the program to help support public safety measures and physical distancing requirements.
That means you won’t be able to have a fire at Goose Spit or the Little River Ferry Terminal beaches this year.
“At this time more than ever we need to follow the Public Health recommendations in order to help stop the spread of Covid-19 in our community,” explains CVRD Parks Manager, Mark Harrison.
“Fire rings bring people together and this is not the time to be promoting this activity. We realize that many residents enjoy the beach fire program and we look forward to offering it again in the future when it is safer to do so.”
The CVRD is also reminding you that it is illegal to have a fire outside of a fire ring or fire place in all of its regional parks.
If you do want to get out and grill on the beach, the CVRD says you are allowed to bring hibachis and small propane BBQ, but you still should follow proper health and safety guidelines when doing so.
