With the sun out and shining and people looking to cool off, comes an important reminder from local search and rescue crews.
If you lose your watercraft downstream and abandon it, Comox Valley Search & Rescue (SAR) is urging you to call the RCMP’s non-emergency line to prevent any unnecessary search and rescue missions.
This comes after crews were called just after 7:30 am on Monday (June 14th) to search the Puntledge River after a kayak was spotted floating overturned and abandoned.
They say water technicians scoured the river from the Condensory bridge to the estuary but found no further clues of foul play. And because no one was reported missing to the Comox Valley RCMP, SAR says the search was called off a few hours later at around 11:30 am.
The team was activated this morning to search the Puntledge River after the discovery of an abandoned overturned kayak.
A reminder to paddlers that if you separate from your boat, please contact the RCMP (non-emergency) with a description of your boat and that you are ok. pic.twitter.com/4RqLsM4wRA
