An officer-involved shooting outside the Tim Hortons in Willow Point on Thursday (July 8th) left one man and service dog Gator dead, and an RCMP officer injured. A man with an outstanding warrant fled a traffic stop, sparking the incident. He was later found near the restaurant on Highway 19A.

Police say the 7-year-old service dog was stabbed, succumbing to his injuries. The officer also suffered from a knife wound. At this time, the Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO BC) is investigating.

Since Gator’s passing, the community has come together. A makeshift memorial out front of the RCMP detachment on Dogwood Street continues to grow.
