Cameron Thompson is showing his fighting spirit as he recovers from a devastating swimming accident in the Puntledge River.
On July 3rd, the young man was left paralyzed with serious spinal cord injuries after diving into river, near Courtenay’s Puntledge Campground.
Sensing trouble, his friends saved Cameron’s life by pulling him out of the water. Once on the river bank, they stabilized his neck until emergency crews arrived.
Cameron remains in hospital with two types of bacteria/pneumonia in his lungs.
Doctors are just doing samples to get him on the right antibiotics.
Meanwhile, his family says he is very grateful for all the love and support and showing his strength and dedication to healing every day, with his sassy, goofy, loveable side always intact.
“We are feeling positive for the best outcome for Cameron,” his mom Christina said.
“Thank you to everyone who is supporting us. Thank you to all the doctors and nurses in ICU at VGH and Home Away Accommodations/Burn Fund Centre for giving me a comfortable place to stay during this difficult time. Cameron is determined and positive.”
His family continues to raise funds to retrofit his home to suit his needs once he gets out of the hospital.
They have set up a bank account to hold the funds in trust for Cameron and his family to use to ease the burden and lighten the load of what comes next.
