Fire crews from Courtenay and Oyster River are headed to the B.C. Interior to assist with the wildfire response.
A four-person crew and engine from the Courtenay Volunteer Fire Department is on the way to Westwold for up to two weeks, joining members from the Oyster River Volunteer Fire Department.
This will be the second deployment for Courtenay firefighters this summer.
An initial crew deployed to Deka Lake in the Cariboo region earlier this month is heading home.
To date, 248 active wildfires are burning in B.C., scorching over 454,000 hectares.
Eighty-four of those fires are in the Kamloops Fire Centre.
Just four are in the Coastal Fire Centre, which includes Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast.
