It’s Party in the Parks weekend in the Comox Valley.
The City of Courtenay, Town of Comox, Comox Valley Regional District, and Comox Valley Arts are teaming up to offer free local music at featured valley parks on Sunday.
Courtenay Mayor Bob Wells says it’s a very rare collaboration in the valley.
“It’s the first time in recent history that we’ve had all the communities come together and put on an event like this. It’s great to see some of those local musicians and support them. There’s going to be artists, as well, at all of these local events, and with COVID in mind, we’re going to encourage everyone to maintain an appropriate physical distance from others at the parks.”
Wells said it’s a community celebration of resilience and strength. He added that this celebration is welcome after a difficult summer.
“We weren’t able to do anything on Canada Day, the parades have all been cancelled this year, so this is something where we can actually have an event,” Wells added.
“I think this is a way for us to show our appreciation to all the residents of the Comox Valley, the first responders, the essential staff, everybody who’s really worked so hard over this last year and a half, and really give everybody an opportunity to have a good time.”
Courtenay activities take place from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30pm with six parks (Martin, Hawk Glen, Puntledge, Sandwick, Valley View and Maple) having music, art activities and family activity kits.
Activity kits are sponsored by Canadian Tire and the Courtenay program is funded by the federal government through the Celebrate Canada Grant program.
Comox has local music from 11:00am until 4:00pm at the Comox Community Centre, Marina Park and Filberg Park.
As well, the Comox Valley Regional District will offer performances at the Merville Hall from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
