Accessible playground to be built at Huband Park Elementary

There will soon be an accessible playground at Huband Park Elementary in Courtenay.

The provincial government is providing $165,000 for the playground and $975,000 for upgrades for School District 71 (Comox Valley).

The playground will include a ground cover and ramps or transfer platforms that connect to the play structure.

The funding is part of the Playground Equipment Program.

“Getting outside to play has been more important than ever for our kids this year,” said Ronna-Rae Leonard, MLA for Courtenay-Comox. “I’m so glad that our government took action three years ago to create the Playground Equipment Program, a reliable source of funding so parents can spend less time fundraising and more time playing with their kids.”

The playground is scheduled to be open by early 2022.

School District 71 is using the $975,000 for improvements including roofing at Mark R. Isfeld Secondary High School in Courtenay and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems at Brooklyn Elementary School in Comox.
