Sledges at Sports Centre aim to make ice activities more accessible

Some new additions at the Comox Valley Sports Centre will help make its ice more accessible for folks with mobility challenges.

The Comox Valley Regional District is offering four sledges and accessories at the centre’s arenas.

They were funded in part by the federal government’s Enabling Accessibility Fund program.

The sledges are available for free at public programs,  such as everyone welcome skates, drop-in hockey, as well as for private rentals such as adult hockey groups or birthday parties.

“We are thrilled to be able to provide more accessible ice options for our community,” explains Jennifer Zbinden, senior manager of recreation services.

“Providing opportunities for everyone to enjoy active living in our community is something we strive for daily.”

If you’re interested in learning more about the equipment or sledge hockey you can give the Comox Valley Sports Centre a call at 250-334-9622.
