Comox Valley Regional District to host food hub information session

Shared food processing equipment may become a reality for Comox Valley businesses.

The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) will be hosting a food hub information session on Dec. 9 to share the path forward of creating a food hub after identifying a strategy this year.

The CVRD says they spoke to over 40 businesses, residents, farmers and interested parties during a feasibility study. They say the food hub would become a shared space with food processing equipment, facilities and specialized services for businesses and entrepreneurs.

Alana Mullaly, general manager of Planning and Development Services says the CVRD is excited to share its progress and is hoping to get stakeholders involved.

“We are excited to discuss the findings of the food hub feasibility study with the community and chart a path forward,” said Mullaly in a press release. “Establishment of a Stewardship Group in the New Year to explore the implementation of the strategy is an immediate first step. We are hoping interested stakeholders will attend the information session and apply to be part of this group.”

The information session will run from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Participants can register online at www.comoxvalleyrd.ca/foodhub or by calling 250-334-6000.
