Kayaker saved by BC Ferries crew

Some quick work from a BC Ferries crew helped save the life of a kayaker Friday night.

At around 9:45 PM, the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre requested assistance from the MV Quinitsa out of Denman Island.

The ferry launched its rescue boat and pulled a female kayaker from the waters approximately one nautical mile north of Buckley Bay, according to BC Ferries rep Deborah Marshall.

Marshall says the woman did not suffer major injuries and returned to the terminal to pick up her kayak earlier today. Marshall adds BC Ferries is very proud of their rescue crews, saying they often do training drills to be prepared for a situation like this.
