Provincial funding for Comox Valley

Communities in the Comox Valley will receive $864,929 in unconditional funding from the Strategic Community Investment Fund, Comox Valley MLA Don McRae has announced.

The grant is part of almost $74 million being invested into communities across B.C. to help cover costs of policing, new equipment, increased community safety initiatives, infrastructure and other priorities.

“Many of our communities really depend on this funding,” McRae said. “This money gives local governments increased financial certainty they can use for programs that help stimulate the local economy.”

  • Cumberland receives $293,803 in a small community grant
  •  The Town of Comox receives $206,187 from a Small Community Grant and $61,193 from traffic fine revenue sharing.
  •   The City of Courtenay receives $197,860 from a Small Community Grant.
  • The Comox Valley Regional District receives $105,886 from a regional district grant.

The Strategic Community Investment Fund includes the Traffic Fine Revenue Sharing Program, Small Community Grant and Regional District Grant Programs.

The Traffic Fine Revenue Sharing program returns 100 per cent of net revenues from traffic violations to municipalities that are directly responsible for paying for policing.

Small Community Grants are available to municipalities with populations of up to 19,000 residents. Regional District Grants are also based on population.
