‘Namgis First Nation benefiting from Energy Business Fund

The First Nations Clean Energy Business Fund is part of the government’s commitment to promote greater First Nations participation in B.C.’s clean energy sector.

Now the ‘Namgis First Nation is benefiting with funding to support an equity investment in the Kokish River run-of-river hydro-electric project.

Minister of Aboriginal Relations John Rustad says they will be getting $400,000 to help them acquire a 25% stake in the project that’s running in their area.

He adds this will help build in the future and create other economic opportunities in the area..

The two-year construction phase of the Kokish River project has created jobs for ‘Namgis’ members, as well as subcontracting opportunities. For more on the ‘Namgis First Nation, visit their website.
