We’re in the thick of a major heat wave!

This has led to Island Health and Vancouver Coastal Health issuing advisories about the hot weather.

Island Health’s Dr. Charmaine Enns says the best advice is common sense, but that’s often overlooked.

Enns says the very old, young, and people with chronic health conditions are most at risk.

Dr. Paul Martiquet of Vancouver Coastal Health says adults need to watch for symptoms of heat stroke in the very young.

The Health Authorities say we should try to avoid strenuous activity during the hottest points of the day… and of course, stay hydrated.

But Enns clarifies that doesn’t mean plenty of cold beer, or iced-capps.

With the ongoing drought, and the heat wave, the Coastal Fire Centre has issued a campfire ban.
