Comox Valley Students win medals at skills competition

Eight School District 71 students are bringing home gold medals after showcasing their skills at a competition in Campbell River.

The district says students took part in the North Island Regional Skills Canada Competition, focused on trades and technology disciplines.

Six secondary students walked away with gold medals, including Grayson Collins for graphic design, Jordyn Wallace for 2D animation, Katie Brown for electronics, Sibylla Chauhan for photography, Maya Diamond for carpentry, and Sharmilla Lorraine Manaois for culinary arts.

The rest of the team won five silver and seven bronze medals for cabinet making, TV/video, baking, and other categories.

On the elementary team, Matthew Wright and Maggie Keenoy took home gold medals for gearbots and spaghetti bridge respectively, while the other students won three silver medals and one bronze.

The district congratulates all students who took part and thanks teachers, coaches, and families for their support.

The secondary students who won gold will move on to the provincial competition in Abbotsford on April 17.
