City of Courtenay to hold multiple Canada Day events

Canada Day is tomorrow, and the City of Courtenay is putting together multiple events for the whole family to enjoy.

According to the City, these events are running in the downtown area and Lewis Park, all dedicated to celebrating Canada’s birthday.

Starting at 9 a.m. is the Comox Valley Concert Band, taking place at the Randy Wiwchar Plaza in front of the Sid Williams Theatre. At 9:30, there will be the 5th Street mile fun run involving the Comox Valley Road Runners, followed by the Canada Day parade down 5th Street at 10.

They say because of the festivities, 5th Street from Willemar Avenue across the street bridge to Ryan Road will be closed from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

For what’s happening in Lewis Park, there is a kids zone with a three-story inflatable slide, face-painting and bubbles, a performance by Lyall Steel and Isabelle Durand, a welcoming ceremony, a birthday cake, a performance by West Coast Chicago, and a kids bike draw all happening from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Also at the park, swimming is free at the outdoor pool, open from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.

In the Courtenay and District Museum, they will host an open house with crafts and prizes from 11 to 3, with hamburgers and hot dogs available for free in the Courtenay Legion starting at 11.

One of the later events is the Evergreen tea dance involving the Georgia Street Big Band, running from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Native Sons Hall.
