CVRD issuing campfire ban in line with BC Wildfire Service

Residents in the Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) will soon be prohibited from having campfires.

The CVRD announced they will be following the campfire ban issued by the BC Wildfire Service starting Friday, July 12 at 12 p.m.

Regional Rural Fire Chief Bruce Green said the recent weather played a part in implementing the ban.

“The Comox Valley continues to experience hot and dry conditions and it’s important to do our part in reducing that risk,” he said.

Campfires in the Coastal Fire Centre’s jurisdiction will be banned, including all provincial parks, Crown land, and private property.

The prohibition doesn’t apply to cooking stoves or portable campfire devices that use gas, propane, or briquettes, provided they are CSA or ULC approved, and the height of the flame is less than 15 centimetres.

The CVRD is also implementing a smoking ban in all parks and fire rings from designated parks will be removed.
