Comox Valley RCMP arrest youth following downtown assault

Comox Valley RCMP have arrested a youth following a downtown assault in Courtenay.

Police say the incident took place at 9:00 a.m. today, where they got a report of someone assaulting people with a knife in front of the library.

Through efforts by officers on the scene and the public, the person was arrested within minutes.

They say no one suffered any serious physical injuries, with the youth currently in custody.

Inspector and officer in charge of Comox Valley RCMP Scott Mercer says they understand the concern that event may cause for people.

“We want to reassure the public that there is no ongoing threat,” said Mercer.

Police are still gathering evidence in the area, where if you have any information, surveillance, cell phone or dashcam footage, call Comox Valley RCMP at 250- 334-5901.
