Canadian Walk for Veterans taking place in Courtenay September 21

Civilians and veterans will be walking around 14 communities across Canada this weekend, including Courtenay.

On Saturday, September 21, veterans and community members are encouraged to join the 2024 Canadian Walk for Veterans in Courtenay starting at the Ace Brewing parking lot at 10 a.m.

15 walks will be held across the country, with Courtenay being the only Vancouver Island community participating, joining Abbotsford, White Rock, and Kamloops as the B.C. representatives.

The seventh annual walk marks a new era for it, as One Veteran Society is no longer the coordinator of the event instead handled by True Patriot Love Foundation.

The walk recognizes current members of the armed forces, veterans, and their families, providing opportunities to learn about some of the mental and physical struggles they face.

Proceeds from the event will help True Patriot Love distribute the money to mental health programs, recovery and rehabilitation services, and 2025 Team Canada Invictus Games members.

This year’s theme for the walk is “A Veteran’s Recovery Journey”.
