CVRD reminding people fireworks require permits ahead of Halloween season

Residents of the Comox Valley are being reminded about the safe use of fireworks ahead of the Halloween season.

The CVRD is reminding people firework permits are required for all planning to set off fireworks for properties of all Electoral Areas.

Senior Manager of Building and Bylaw Compliance Amanda Yasinski said failing to have a permit could result in a $500 fine.

“This Halloween we are asking residents to get their fireworks permit first before setting anything off.”

Fireworks will be on sale in the CVRD from October 24 to November 1 and to be set off on your own property or with permission from the property’s owner.

Permits are available online or at the CVRD office for $10, and applicants must be over the age of 18.

People looking to set them off are asked to let nearby neighbours know beforehand to help reduce the chance of scaring children and animals.
