BC Ferries gears up for over half a million customers

BC Ferries says they’re catering to long weekend travelers by adding extra services and sailings along key routes to help deal with the increased capacity.

More than 420,000 passengers and 160,000 cars are expected to be utilizing the service during the Thanksgiving long weekend, and BC Ferries says a modified schedule along with added sailings should help reduce congestion and stress.

They add, despite the added sailings and modified schedules people should still plan and make reservations.

“The Thanksgiving long weekend is typically the most popular weekend of the year for walk-on passengers,” they say. “Walk-on passengers can make a free booking on three routes connecting Metro Vancouver and Vancouver Island as well as on the Tsawassen – Southern Gulf Island route.”

BC Ferries is adding a additional 66 sailings on the Vancouver to Victoria route, 12 extra from Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay, and seven on the Horseshoe Bay to Langdale, but still are offering tips to help riders.

“Booking in advance, rideshare, arrive early are all key-ways to help long weekend travel,” they say.

Customers can still take advantage of saver fares during off-peak hours, and BC Ferries says they’re encouraging everyone to consider off-peak travel unless it’s absolutely unavoidable.
