Historic Comox home demolished

“Baybrook”…The historic Comox home of well known artist and naturalist Mack Laing, has been torn down.

Comox Mayor Paul Ives says staff had been working on securing permits to demolish the building for some time, despite major concerns from the Mack Laing Heritage Society.

He says restoring the structure would have been very expensive, and there were also access issues.

A demolition team took down the home, built back in 1922, and local RCMP were on hand to keep an eye on things.

Ives says no decisions have been made on another home of Mack Laing…

Ives says the council decision to tear down the home was made early this year, back in February.
