With the fall season well underway, the City of Courtenay is hoping to make it easier for residents to get rid of their yard waste.
Starting November 1, Courtenay residents who receive curbside collection from the city will be eligible to drop off their yard waste at the seasonal collection site.
Manager of Public Works Services for the City of Courtenay Chris Thompson said residents need it given the number of leaves and other waste accumulating given the time of year.
“We had a great response to this service in the spring, residents did a fantastic job keeping their dropped off yard waste clean and free of debris.”
The collection point will be at the end of McKenzie Avenue and will be open from Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Leaves, grass clippings, flowers, plants, and small branches less than three inches in diameter are excepted either loose or in a paper yard waste bag.
Plastic bags, whether compostable or biodegradable, will not be accepted at the drop off as they as also not allowed in curbside organic carts.
Additionally, food waste and food-soiled paper will not be accepted and should be placed in organics carts.
City staff will be on site monitoring the drop-off point each day and the yard waste collected will be composted.
The last day of the collection site will be November 29.
