Prepare for all cold weather emergencies, Environment and Climate Change Canada

With temperatures starting to drop, Island and Sunshine Coast residents are being urged to take all necessary precautions, especially with the threat of increased rainfall and snow.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, there are no active weather alerts on Vancouver Island but that could change at any moment.

They say provincial officials are taking all necessary action to mitigate future emergencies including closely monitoring all incoming weather systems and communicating any alerts to the affected municipalities.

Making sure you protect your home against flooding such as creating a grab-and-go bag in the event of an evacuation and recognizing the danger signs are all part of ensuring your own safety and protection.

The ministry also says safety extends outside the home, and people should drive according to any weather conditions, check the forecast before they travel, have an emergency plan, and don’t panic if you’ve become stuck or stranded.

To learn more about emergencies, visit the province’s or the ministry’s website.
