Kings Corner: November 1-3 Weekend

WEEK IN REVIEW

It was a tough start to last week for the Glacier Kings, losing 4-1 on the road to the Peninsula Panthers Friday night.

Head Coach Curtis Toneff was not happy with the team’s performance after getting outshot 54-26, saying they need to be better prepared at the start of games.

He liked how they were able to bounce back the next night, however at home against the Victoria Cougars, winning 3-1.

Toneff credited a strong third period from his team to help them pull away, something he hopes they can look back on and build towards as the season progresses.

SATURDAY NOVEMBER 2 7:45 P.M. VS LAKE COWICHAN KRAKEN

The Glacier Kings stay at home for the first game of the weekend, in a North Division matchup against the Lake Cowichan Kraken.

It will be the Kraken’s second game of a back-to-back as they play at home against Oceanside on Friday night.

The two teams met just two weeks ago, with the Kraken winning 4-2 but struggling since that contest having lost all three games since and only scoring one goal in each.

Toneff hopes to correct some of the mistakes his team made in the last matchup to have success in this upcoming one.

“They did a good job sneaking their forwards behind us, kind of finding little windows of stretching the game out and getting breakaways off it and it’s something we need to be aware of for sure and they’re a much better team than their record shows.”

SUNDAY NOVEMBER 3 3:00 P.M. VS KERRY PARK ISLANDERS

It will be a short turnaround the next day for the Glacier Kings, having to head out on the road for a Sunday afternoon game against the Kerry Park Islanders.

It’s a team they haven’t seen since September 21, when the Glacier Kings were able to take a 3-2 road victory over them.

Toneff understands the Islanders have a few standout players and hopes his team can hold them in check to come away with a win.

“If we can have the puck for 50-55% of the game that would be a good start against a team like that and limit their looks.”

The Islanders sit in third place in the South Division with a record of 9-4-1-0 through 14 games.
