BCNU teams up with province in tackling violence

The BC Nurses Union is welcoming a chance to work with the Health Ministry to deal with violence against their members…and other health care workers.

The BCNU and the government confirmed they’re rolling out a new 2-million dollar program at 4 facilities…with more to come.

Of the first 4, only one is on the Island. Victoria’s Seven Oaks Tertiary Mental Health Care centre

Gayle Duteil is the BCNU’s president.

Nurses were assaulted earlier this year at two of the 4 locations chosen to start the program.

Duteil says in one case the nurse has returned to work, but a nurse attacked in Abbotsford this March is still recovering.
