WEEK IN REVIEW
The Glacier Kings took their only game of the week last Friday, defeating the Oceanside Generals 3-1 on home ice.
It was the team’s first win since October 26, and helped keep the Generals winless since September 19.
Head Coach Curtis Toneff said he thought both teams played well and were both backed by strong goaltending performances.
“I think it was important for us to come away with the two points just for our morale as a group moving forward.”
The win moved the Glacier Kings to a 4-0 record on the season series against the Generals.
FRIDAY NOVEMBER 22 6:30 P.M., SATURDAY NOVEMBER 23 7:30 P.M. VS SAANICH PREDATORS
The Glacier Kings start of the rare three games in three days weekend with a home and home against the Saanich Predators.
They’ll travel down to Saanich Friday night for a road matchup with both teams coming back to the Comox Valley for a Saturday night matchup.
Toneff said despite Saanich’s slow start to the season, they’ve started to come on as of late, so they need to be ready to go for both games.
“Get the two points really that’s all we’re asking for tomorrow night, just battle, find a way to win and protect the guts of the ice.”
The two teams have met just once this season prior to this weekend’s two contests, with Saanich coming away with the victory at home 7-2.
Saanich holds a 6-15-2-0 record on the season, sitting in last place in the South Division and eight points back of fourth place Victoria.
SUNDAY NOVEMBER 24 3:15 P.M. VS NANAIMO BUCCANEERS
The Glacier Kings will wrap up the weekend with a matinee contest against the Nanaimo Buccaneers on Sunday.
The two teams last met just over a month ago, with Nanaimo coming away with a 7-1 win on home ice.
Despite the loss, Toneff said they’ve added around seven or eight new players to their lineup through transactions and players returning from injuries.
“I wouldn’t even think back to that game really I think we’re a different hockey team now.”
It will be an important contest for both teams in the standings race as the Buccaneers will look to build their lead over the Glacier Kings for third place in the North Division.
Meanwhile the Glacier Kings will look to keep pace with the Buccaneers while maintaining distance over the fifth place Lake Cowichan Kraken.
