Search for Sylvia Apps formally stood down

The massive search for 69 year old Comox Valley hiker Sylvia Apps, missing in Strathcona Park since July 8th, has been formally stood down.

Comox Ground Search and Rescue President Paul Berry says, despite an extensive weekend search that included over 100 searchers from 19 different teams, as well as 50 volunteers and 3 helicopters, there was no sign of Sylvia.

Crews discovered multiple items of Apps throughout the search, including her backpack, phone, hiking poles and sweater.

Berry says they will still be accepting tips or information on the whereabouts of Apps, and they would re-activate if enough new information comes through.
