Kings Corner: November 29 – December 1 weekend

WEEK IN REVIEW

It was a successful last weekend for the Glacier Kings, taking five out of a possible six points available.

It started out with a tough overtime loss in Saanich Friday night by a score of 4-3, but they were able to bounce back for the second half of the home and home Saturday night defeating the Predators 6-3.

They then headed down to Nanaimo to complete the rare three games in three days weekend, beating the Buccaneers 3-0.

Head Coach Curtis Toneff said he thought they deserved to win Friday’s game but is proud of the way they responded and said the group is starting to come together.

“It’s nice to see it come from within, the things like blocking shots and the little things that lead up to a big thing over the course of a hockey game or the course of a season and we see guys starting to do that and it’s a very positive sign.”

FRIDAY NOVEMBER 29 7:30 P.M. VS CAMPBELL RIVER STORM

The Glacier Kings will look to keep the positive momentum rolling into two important divisional games this weekend, starting off in Campbell River Friday night.

Campbell River sits in second place in the North Division with 36 points, just one back of first place Port Alberni who the Glacier Kings will see on Saturday.

Toneff said it’s a good test for their group and said it’s a challenging rink to play at.

“I find with that rink you can’t get behind the eight ball, you can’t let them dictate the game, you got to kill plays and have to check hard and win your wall battles.”

It will be the two teams’ third meeting of the year, with Campbell River having dominated the matchups so far, winning 6-0 and 7-2.

SATURDAY NOVEMBER 30 7:45 P.M. VS PORT ALBERNI BOMBERS

The Glacier Kings will wrap the month of November at home Saturday night against the top seeded Port Alberni Bombers.

The two sides last played on October 5, with the Glacier Kings winning 2-1 on home ice.

Toneff said they have a strong and fast team and will have to keep them off the powerplay if they want to be successful.

“It’s got to be a disciplined night where we hold them up and don’t let their fast forwards get speed through the neutral zone.”

It will be the third meeting between the two sides of the year, with both teams having won one game each.
