Courtenay homicide suspect identified

We now know the identity of the accused in the death of 23-year-old Kevin John Burns.

41-year-old Shane Stanford faces a 2nd degree murder charge.

In his initial appearance in Courtenay Provincial Court, it was revealed that he is known to police, with 4 previous charges to his name in 2015.

On Tuesday night (August 11, 2015), Valley RCMP responded to the downtown core of Courtenay and found Burns suffering serious injuries. He was later pronounced deceased in Hospital in Comox.

Stanford is set to return to court in Courtenay on August 27th. A team of Major Crimes Investigators continue their homicide investigation.
