The Comox Valley RCMP is looking for a suspect responsible for setting a fire last night.

A fire was set around 9:30 p.m. at the steps of the old Courtenay Train Station, with a witness obtaining surveillance footage of the individual approaching the area, lighting the fire, then departing on foot.

Cst. Monika Terragni of the Comox Valley RCMP said investigators have obtained the footage from the witness and are looking for additional information.

“We are waiting to hear from several businesses regarding additional footage of the suspect.”

The suspect was wearing a beige jacket, patterned pants, beige boots, and a black backpack with a lighter-coloured item(s) attached.

Terragni said investigators have seized evidence from the scene and are receiving help from the Integrated Forensic Identification Section.

“In the meantime, we are asking anyone who was in the area before and after 8:30 p.m. to review their surveillance or dashcam footage to recall any unusual activity that may assist in the investigation.”

Anyone with information or footage is asked to contact the Comox Valley RCMP.
