Unified AAP response period ending today at 4:30 p.m.

Comox Valley residents have just a day remaining to take part in the Comox Valley Regional District’s (CRVD) Alternative Approval Process (AAP).

The AAP covers borrowing to cover four different initiatives, including a new artificial turf field, the construction of a new firehall in Union Bay, an emergency shelter and supportive housing land acquisition and homelessness supports.

The new turf field requires long-term borrowing of $3 million over 10 years and would be built on the upper grass field at G.P. Vanier Secondary School.

The Union Bay Firehall project will replace the old aging hall which cannot fit new trucks into its bays and will approve borrowing $2.755 million over 25 years.

Both the emergency shelter and supportive housing land acquisitions and homelessness supports feature bylaws which received readings at CVRD Board meetings which seek elector approval in accordance with the Local Government Act.

The AAP has been open since January 15 and elector response forms from people who wish to oppose the financing proposals will stop being accepted after 4:30 p.m. today.

More information on the AAP can be found here.
