UPDATE: 7,298 BC Hydro customers currently without power on Island and Coast

UPDATE 3:30 p.m.: While some have regained power, more BC Hydro customers have lost power by this afternoon.

Over 7,290 BC Hydro customers are without power as strong winds hit the Island and Coast.

BC Hydro says these outages have taken place throughout today, with the earliest reported at 10:14 a.m.

A total of 7,298 customers have been affected, with most coming from Vancouver Island at 4,522  from Courtenay, Campbell River, Duncan, Parksville, and Qualicum Beach.

For the Sunshine Coast, 2,776 customers are without power in Powell River and Sechelt.

Hydro crews are working to restore power, with some on their way to the affected sites.
