Human remains found by kayakers

The Outer Gulf Islands RCMP, the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit, West Coast Marine Section, Nanaimo RCMP Forensic Identification Section and the BC Coroners Service responded to the waters just east of Norway Island on the evening of August 19th, following reports from a group of kayakers that they had located human remains.

Police have recovered the remains and are currently assisting the BC Coroners Service as they work to identify the deceased. Once identified, the deceased’s next of kin will be notified and investigators will work to establish how the person came to be at that location, how they died, and whether foul play was involved.

Policve say investigators were in contact with Delores Brown’s family last night, and have shared these recent developments with them. 18 year old Delores Brown was reported missing on July 29, 2015 from nearby Penelakut Island and has not been seen since July 27, 2015.

Police ask anyone who may have seen Delores since July 27, 2015, or has information on her disappearance, to contact the Ladysmith RCMP at 250-245-2215 or Crime stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
