If the clouds clear Thursday night you will get a chance to see a total eclipse of the moon, hitting its peak around midnight.
According to NASA, Vancouver Island and the rest of North America will be able to watch the whole thing from beginning to end. The partial eclipse starts about 10:10 pm Thursday night, with the full eclipse starting just before 11:30 pm. The moon will be completely in Earth’s shadow for about an hour, with the maximum eclipse will be about one minute before midnight. The whole event will be over by 3 am.
At its peak the moon will appear reddish-orange. Lunar eclipses are often called Blood Moons because of this phenomenon.
A partial solar eclipse will follow later this month on March 29.
