Nighttime flares near Texada Island part of military exercises

Flares in the night sky near Texada Island are part of military operations this week.

According to 19 Wing’s Totem Times, From Tuesday to Thursday this week, a CC-295 Kingfisher aircraft from 19 Wing Comox is conducting operations in the Texada Range.

The operations are scheduled between 8:00 p.m. and 12:00 a.m. During those times, flares and smoke markers will be deployed.

The white flares will illuminate for several minutes as they descend from their release altitude to the ground.

The operation will wrap up Thursday night.
