Rates at waste management centres going up April 1

Some fees at the waste management centres in the Comox Valley will be going up, starting April 1.

One of the main changes will be to the rate for municipal solid waste, household garbage, which will go up by $10 to $165 per tonne. The minimum rate of $10 for up to 100 kilograms will still apply.

The rates for tires and gypsum will also increase by $10 per tonne.

Home renovators should also be aware there’s a big increase coming October 1 for construction and demolition waste. Rates will increase by $50 per tonne for loads without recyclables and prohibited waste, and increasing by $71 per tonne for loads that do contain them.

Visit the Comox Strathcona Waste Management website for a full list of rate changes.
