Comox Fire Rescue looking to upgrade current fire station

Comox Fire Rescue is beginning the process of looking to upgrade its existing fire station.

According to the Town of Comox’s council agenda for the Wednesday, April 2 meeting, Fire Chief Gord Schreiner will submit a presentation about upgrading the current Noel Avenue building, which has been around since 1978.

According to the report, the upgrades would not impact the truck bays and the fleet itself, but upgrades to the living spaces for the growing staff.

The 1.5 storied building currently fields three offices for eight staff members, one shower and three bathrooms for 60 members, a small bedroom, and a small kitchen.

The upgrade would double the current size of the facility, going to three full stories and 10,000 square feet, up from the previous 4,200.

Eight offices, 10 showers, 12 bathrooms and five bedrooms are being proposed, along with two boardrooms with two murphy beds in each.

Early indications show the cost would be approximately $6 million, with less than $2 million needing to be funded through Town of Comox residents.

The project is looking to be approved early next year, with a project timeline of April 2026 to January 2027.

The topic will be discussed at Wednesday’s council meeting, which starts at 5 p.m.
