BC Hydro increasing Puntledge River inflow again, advising public to stay away

More increased water levels are set to hit the Puntledge River this weekend.

BC Hydro said they’ll be doubling their spill from the Comox Dam from 40 cubic metres per second (m3/s) to approximately 80 m3/s.

The Comox Lake Reservoir water level sits at 134.7 metres above sea level currently and is rising, with inflows expected to remain above normal for the next 7-10 days.

Water will spill over the Comox Dam at 135.33 metres, with the increased water release from the Comox Dam helping manage the reservoir level to maintain operational flexibility.

The public is being asked to stay away from higher flows along the Puntledge River starting tonight and lasting through the weekend until Monday, April 7.

Safety signage will be placed along the river highlighting the risk to people.

The Powerhouse is now operating at full power generation.
