‘Anyone but Gunn’ activists take aim at local businesses

A group of non-partisan voters is encouraging people to boycott businesses in the North Island-Powell River riding who support Conservative candidate Aaron Gunn.

Businesses in their crosshairs include small to large businesses, from Port Hardy south to northern Courtenay.

Organizer Jamie Bryant is asking people to send in the names of businesses who have posted campaign signs for Gunn, or have other proof the business supports the Conservative candidate. She says the campaign isn’t affiliated with any party; it’s all about making sure Gunn does not get elected.

She says she was disgusted by comments has made in the past, which she says are offensive and hurtful to residential school survivors.

Gunn has since clarified his comments multiple times, but Bryant says she’s working to make sure he does not get elected.

In public social media posts, Bryant says all conservatives are a threat and that the Conservative platform is based on discrimination, and that anyone who doesn’t agree with her perspectives can “please move to Russia.”

She says she doesn’t know which candidate poses the best chance of defeating Gunn, but adds she will keep watching the polls to help make up her mind as the election date draws near.

Bryant is also organizing a “Stop Aaron Gunn” rally on Saturday in Campbell River outside Gunn’s campaign office.
