Nearly 15,000 water meters to be installed across rural BC

19 communities across BC can save their water through new water meters.

The BC Government will be installing nearly 15,000 automated meters for small, rural, and First Nations communities to help them not only save water, but to also make them more resilient to droughts.

The meters would lower water use by 30 percent, with the goal of saving up to 1.5 billion litres a year.

Minister of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship Randene Neil says people living in small and rural communities deserve to have affordable and reliable water service.

The province says the meters are part of a new program to help small communities manage their water use.

They hope through the meters, it would let people only pay for what they are using.

A total of $50 million will be invested, with Gold River getting $3.2 million for 610 water meters.
