Grand opening of Bob’s Office exhibit held in Comox today

A newly transformed exhibit had its grand opening in Filberg Lodge today.

Called Bob’s Office, it’s a room inside the Lodge in Filberg Park that offers a look into the era of hand logging in the Comox Valley in the 1920’s and 1930’s. It also focuses on Robert Filberg, best known for his work in the Comox Logging and Railway Company, and the men in the woods who performed the hand logging.

Executive Director of Filberg Heritage Lodge & Park Association Linda Trevor says it’s important that they provide education and preserve the history of that era.

“Logging is a big part of the 20s, 30s, and 40s in the Comox Valley,” said Trevor.

“It’s imperative for us that we have the opportunity to showcase, create this interactive room that allows a point for education, but as well as this great space to preserve that history.”

Trevor says the idea of this exhibit was pushed by the volunteers of the Association, with the Board of Directors unanimously supporting the idea.

This resulted in a task force of volunteers spending many hours sourcing all the items, painting the room, changing the lighting, and putting together the displays in the office.

She says it feels fantastic being able to provide this exhibit for the community.

“People can come in now and can look at that room, and take in that experience, and experience the Lodge, shop at the Gift Shop and enjoy our park,” said Trevor.

“Part of that is seeing the history of where things started.”

Residents will get to see several artifacts, photographs, logging clothes, desk, chairs, and stories from the time, with narrated pieces available for you to listen by scanning QR codes in the room. One of the codes lets you hear a recorded interview from Robert Fitzgerald himself.
