Sports Centre 50th anniversary celebration scheduled for September 6

Comox Valley community members are invited to celebrate one of its distinct facilities for its anniversary.

The Comox Valley Sports Centre is celebrating its 50th anniversary on September 6, honouring five decades of recreation, community connection, and healthy living.

The all-day family friendly event features a retro-themed aquafit class, a cake cutting, public swim, public skating, and a pool side movie.

The facility will kick off the celebrations on August 7 with 50 days of giveaways, with one person a day winning free admission just for showing up.

Assistant Senior Manager of Recreation Services Trish Morgan said a community photo contest will also take place from August 7-23.

“Participants can submit photos taken at the facility from 1975 to the present for a chance to win a 3-month family pass.”

Selected photos will be displayed as part of a photo exhibit during the anniversary celebration on September 6.

The celebration starts at 1:30 p.m. and finishes around 8:00 p.m.
