Increase in thefts from vehicles prompts warning from Comox Valley RCMP

Comox Valley residents are being warned to protect their belongings after an increase in thefts from parked vehicles since the beginning of the summer.

Items such as wallets, tools, speakers, engagement rings and wedding bands, sunglasses, cell phone cables, cameras, and documentation have been taken from vehicles since the beginning of the summer according to RCMP.

Cst. Monika Terragni of the Comox Valley RCMP is urging people to continue to report thefts to help them identify trends, direct patrols, and link people to multiple crimes.

“Reporting any and all suspicious activity, no matter how small it seems, can prevent crimes before they happen.”

To protect from thefts, RCMP recommends not leaving vehicles unattended while the engine is running, never hiding a spare key in someplace not in your residence, and to not leave valuables or accessories in view in your vehicle.
