Mother and child killed by fallen tree at Cumberland Lake Park Thursday

A mother and her child were killed by a tree which fell at Cumberland Lake Park Thursday afternoon.

First responders were sent to the scene once reported, with the RCMP controlling the area.

Despite life-saving efforts to both, the 26-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene, while her 5-month-old child was transported to hospital but didn’t survive.

RCMP are continuing to investigate the incident, but criminality is not believed to be a factor.

No further details will be released out of respect for the family the RCMP said, and they offer their deepest condolences to those affected.
