Coroner identifies three men who perished in fishboat capsizing

The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of three
men who died following the capsizing of a commercial fishboat west of
Vancouver Island on Sept. 5, 2015.

They were: Wesley Hagglund, aged 55, of Duncan, skipper of the 33-metre
fish dragger Caledonian; Keith Edward Standing, aged 48, of Port
Alberni, engineer on the vessel; and Doug White, aged 41, also of Port
Alberni, a deckhand.

The three were aboard the boat which was about 55 km west of Estevan
Point north of Tofino when it capsized and eventually sank.

The three were recovered by the Canadian Coast Guard over the next 18-hour
period. All were deceased at the scene. A fourth crew member survived
and was rescued by the Canadian Coast Guard.

The BC Coroners Service, RCMP and the Transportation Safety Board are
continuing to investigate this death.

Initial reports indicate the survivor was the only crew member wearing a life jacket.

The families of all three men have been notified of their deaths.
