AFN says First Nations vote could play a deciding role in Federal Election

The Assembly of First Nations says it’s marked 51 ridings where First Nations voters could play a deciding role in October…including Courtenay-Alberni and North Island-Powell River.

And the Director of VIU’s Centre for Pre-Confederation Treaties and Reconciliation says aboriginal people should be asserting that influence.

Doug White says many of the problems aboriginal people are grappling with come from Federal law and policy, so voting in Federal elections, as well as the outcome of the election is critical to First Nations.

There are two other Island ridings on the AFN’s list: Cowichan-Malahat-Langford and Nanaimo-Ladysmith.
