Comox Fire holds Hazmat training

9 Firefighters from around Vancouver Island stopped by the Comox Fire Department’s Training Centre this weekend for a Hazmat Operations course.

The annual event is split over 2 weekends. The program is the 2nd level of Hazmat training for firefighters.

Assistant Fire Chief Jim Lariviere says the first session was a success.

Lariviere adds even with only 9 firefighters on hand, the course stays the same as it would with 20 fighters in attendance.

Lariviere adds the program wraps up next Sunday, with more practical, hands-on work coming up for firefighters.
