Emergency alert test goes Wednesday

Don’t be alarmed Wednesday afternoon.

Emergency Management BC will be conducting a province-wide test of the BC Emergency Alerting System.

At 1:58 p.m., you’ll hear an alert tone through the radio and television followed by a message explaining the test.

This is part of a new Canada-wide system that allows government officials to put out public safety alerts through broadcasters.

Protective Services Coordinator Howie Siemens says this is new to the province.

The alert system is meant for large disasters, or emergencies.
